There are two general types of rain chains, link style and cup style. Choosing between the two means more than just deciding on which chain will look best on your home. Cup style rain chains are a series of cups linked together, they can generally handle more waterflow than link styles. Our link style rain chains look more like traditional chains in a variety of unique designs. Although link style chains look great, you should expect some splashing during rainstorms. So, which one should you choose?
The basic design of these rain chains is cups that act like funnels linked together with metal hangers or links of chain. The water flows from your gutter and down through the cups. This design is what makes them function so well, many of these cups have water flow indexes of 4-5 which means they can handle heavy rainfall with very little splashing. Since cup style rain chains are generally larger than link style chains, they will sway in the wind a little more. As long as your chain is properly secured this will not be an issue for most homes. You'll just want to be sure you have a secure connection to the gutter and the ground. There are many unique styles and cup sizes that you can choose from. Shop our selection and find the perfect fit for your home's architectural style.
These chains generally have lower waterflow indexes due to their design, usually around 1-3. If you live in an area with heavy rainfall and you're worried about water splashing off your rain chain, we suggest considering a cup style. However, in most cases splashing from these chains will not cause any damage to your home or it’s foundation providing your landscaping is properly graded. However, we do highly recommend using an installation kit or a link chain reducer with link style rain chains. These installation accessories will help direct water onto your rain chain, which will help reduce some splashing. These chains are very popular because of their minimal, modern design. We offer a variety of link styles for you to choose from!
