A Glorious Birdbath!

This hammered copper bowl makes a beautiful birdbath in the garden, sunlight glinting off it, the birds drinking and washing. MAGIC

Disappointed

I swapped out my beautiful blue ceramic birdbath bowl for the 16 inch copper bowl because I was tired of having to clean out algae. I thought for sure it was going to be the ticket. However, there is not much improvement. I don’t understand why because the bowl is copper but it just collects algae on the sides of the bowl just like the ceramic bowl does. Again, disappointed.

Hi Cara,

Sorry to hear that there's some algae forming in the copper dish. Copper has great antimicrobial properties, but isn't perfect. Algae thrives in still water with light. If the bowl is placed outdoors and not cleaned regularly, algae can form even in copper containers. Dust, pollen, or organic debris (like flower petals or even hand oils) in the water can also fuel algae. Just a little organic matter can serve as food for algae. There could also be a low ion release from this dish for some reason as well.

I will bring this up to our team as well and make sure we dig into this.

Sincerely,
