Most Cup-Style Designs Do Not Require Chain

Do rain chains need chain?

Do you need to purchase additional chain to assemble your rain chain? You do not!

When browsing rain chains, you’ll notice two main styles: cup-style and link-style. While link style rain chains resemble traditional chain designs, cup-style rain chains are different. Many homeowners are surprised to learn that they usually don’t have any actual chain at all.

Cup-Style Rain Chains Typically Use Wires, Not Chain

Many of the cup-style rain chains we offer are built from a series of decorative cups, each connected to the next with a metal wire or small loop. This design allows water to flow smoothly from cup to cup, guiding it down to the ground or into a basin.

Because of this construction, there’s no need for a traditional chain to hold them together. The wires provide both strength and stability, making the rain chain functional as well as stylish.

Link-Style Chains Mimic Traditional Chains

In contrast, most link style rain chains are designed to look like classic chains, with interlocking links that create an open path for water. These give a more rustic, simple aesthetic compared to the structured look of cups.
